As a homeschool mom and teacher, there's something I've always believed in when it comes to teaching history or preparing for deep, meaningful conversations about the past: getting the big picture is crucial. To truly understand the context and the complexities of historical periods, I've found myself diving into movies set in those times, alongside reading historical fiction and non-fiction biographies. These aren't just preparatory steps; they're my way of catapulting into the era, capturing my attention, and serving as a launchpad for a deeper exploration into the facts and figures of history.

Ive compiled a list of popular movies that dive into the fascinating era of ancient history with a spirit of exploration and curiosity. However, it is essential to note that these movies are mere suggestions for parents. I advise carefully reviewing the ratings and parental guide information to ensure these movies align with your family's values.

Why Watch Movies?

As a young girl in middle school, I remember thinking how exciting history could be if schools used movies to teach history. I've found that pairing movies with our history lessons does more than provide entertainment; it breathes life into the names and dates, giving us a glimpse into the world as it might have been. This approach has transformed my lesson planning and homeschooling journey, making each historical period we study not just a timeline entry but a vivid, living story that we can almost step into.
